Bonfire Night 2026: Check Local Firework and Travel Rules
Bonfire Night, also known as Guy Fawkes Night, falls on Thursday 5 November 2026. Before travelling to a display in England, check your local council’s event information and your transport operator’s latest updates: event arrangements, restrictions, road closures and services vary by area.
Check council listings before choosing a display
Search your council’s website for its Bonfire Night or fireworks listings. Councils may provide event times, locations, admission details, access information and any local restrictions. Confirm details with the organiser before setting off, as arrangements can differ between towns and may change.
If there is no council listing for the event you have in mind, check directly with its organiser. Do not assume that a display is open to the public or that fireworks are permitted in every location.
Keep a safe distance at organised displays
Follow instructions from event staff and any barriers or safety zones. Choose a designated viewing area, keep clear of launch areas, and supervise children closely. Avoid bringing your own fireworks into an organised event unless the organiser expressly permits them.

Firework rules and local restrictions can vary. Read the government’s fireworks law guidance and check your council’s current advice for the place you plan to visit. The national guidance does not replace local event instructions.
Check roads and public transport on 5 November
A large event can affect nearby roads and public transport. Before leaving, check for updates from both your council and the operators serving your route:
- Look for council notices about road closures, parking limits and event access.
- Check your train, bus or other transport operator for service changes and the last return journey.
- Allow extra time to reach the viewing area and plan where you will meet your group if mobile coverage is busy.
- Recheck updates on the day, especially if your journey depends on a particular service or road.
The Met Office’s weather forecast can help you prepare for conditions on the evening. Check the forecast for the location you are visiting and dress for waiting outdoors. Your council and transport operator remain the best sources for local event and travel changes.
